ELGIN – State Senator Cristina Castro (D-Elgin) announced many communities in the district she represents are set to receive funding for transportation projects under the Rebuild Illinois capital program, including a grant for $1.2 million to the city of Elgin. 

“It’s great to see such a strong investment in infrastructure from these grants,” Castro said. “The fact that these grants are going to local governments means these communities can redirect money that would otherwise be going toward things like fixing up roads and bridges to other parts of their budget.”

The Rebuild Illinois capital program was a bipartisan effort passed in 2019 to invest in the state’s aging transportation system. The program allocates a total of $1.5 billion toward counties, municipalities and townships spread out over six installments in three years. This is the third installment of these funds.

Other local communities receiving grants include more than $570,000 for Hoffman Estates, nearly $438,000 for Streamwood and a bit over $417,000 for Hanover Park.

“Local transportation infrastructure is so important to our communities,” Castro said. “I’m excited to see how our cities will use these funds to undertake much needed projects in the area.”
