SCHAUMBURG – State Senator Cristina Castro (D- Elgin) was honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the 90 North District development project in Schaumburg. The project includes $40 million in funding for community improvements this fiscal year.
“From job creation to beautification, I am excited to see all the improvements this new development will bring to the community,” Castro said. “I commend the Village of Schaumburg and Village President Tom Dailly in their hard work throughout this difficult year in securing the grants and funding to make this project happen.”
The site for the development sits along I-90 (Jane Addam’s Tollway) and west of I-290, surrounding the Schaumburg Convention Center and across the street from Zurich North America and the Veridian Development.
Funding will go towards infrastructure improvements to create a vibrant mixed-use community that will enhance walkability and draw visitors. The west-side portion of the project will include a Business Core, Mainstreet, Greenway Park System, and a Trail System. The east-side portion will be the entertainment hub featuring new restaurants, venues, and hotels.
“The 90 North District Park is part of a larger greenway system that will connect to major destinations and amenities in the 90 North District,” Schaumburg Village President Tom Dailly said. “It will be both a neighborhood park and a regional destination offering various benefits such as year-round recreational opportunities, a place for visitors to spend time enjoying active and passive recreation, and promotion of sustainability through its use of special features and native landscapes – all of which will drive additional investment and development in the 90 North District."
