Elgin-area residents will see enhanced recreational activities in the coming years as Elgin breaks ground on its new sports complex expansion, a move State Senator Cristina Castro applauds.
“Investing in the infrastructure that improves residents’ quality of life will create new construction jobs, draw visitors, and help Elgin attract new events and tournaments – ultimately benefiting our local economy,” said Castro (D-Elgin). “I’m excited to see this project begin and look forward to the new opportunities the complex will create for families, athletes and vendors across our community.”
The expansion was made possible by various investments, including $1 million in funding through the Castro-supported Rebuild Illinois program.
The $21 million project will update the complex with three new synthetic turf fields, a new playground, walking trails, bike path, updated amenities and more. The project also includes infrastructure improvements for parking areas, including new electric vehicle charging stations, and a new roadway connecting the complex to Route 31 for improved access to downtown Elgin.
The Elgin Sports Complex is currently a hub for activities like soccer, volleyball, golf, softball and BMX racing and is home to several youth and adult sports leagues. The upgrades planned will help meet community demand for additional multi-purpose sports fields for soccer and other recreational programs.
